I am four years in crypto and I have never made a single trade. I keep seeing people miss the whole point of what this space actually is, and I wanted to say it out loud. If you would rather watch than read, here is the full thing.
The mistake that keeps crypto small
Crypto will keep struggling to reach more people if we keep making the same mistake. I am talking about a mistake that not only me, but pretty much everybody outside of this space does, which is attributing success here to trading.
If you want to make money in crypto, if you want to have this crypto dream many people still hold in their heads, you need to be trading. That is the idea. And it is such a wrong idea. Such a box we are putting ourselves into, pretty much blocking our vision to see the big picture.
I know this space still brings attention because of the financial element, and DeFi will of course keep being a main part of it. But the framing is wrong.
My own example
When I first started here, I was just around these NFT communities. And I was there because in my mind I just put that I could be in these Discords talking with people, pretty much practicing my English for free. That alone was already incredible to me. I was just around, and I found an insane amount of great people.
But the main thing, and again, I was not someone looking for anything, was the opportunities. Insane amount of opportunities. For someone who was just there, willing to do the work, willing to support the community, willing to show up.
That is the exact same reason this space still has so much potential, and we are still so early.
The early internet analogy
If we compare with the early internet days, it gets clearer fast. At the time, a lot of people thought that to be around, to get into this internet thing, they would have to create websites. And right now we can see how limited that view was. Totally understandable, but limited.
We have the exact same thing here. All of us, and people outside of crypto even more, are looking at this space and thinking that if I want to get in, I need to go buy tokens, I need to sell tokens, I need to play the whole trading game. Which is wrong.
What this space is actually about
This space is about opportunity. It is about knowing that the same job you are already doing with design, or sales, or anything else in your real life, you could be doing inside crypto for three, four, five, maybe even ten times more. Just because you are early here with us.
I am four years in crypto, and I have never traded. Not once. Everything I built, my career, my income, my whole life here, came from the opportunities I found by being around and doing the work. That is it.
The mission
The mission I want to invite you into is this. Let us remind ourselves, and the people around us, that crypto is a lot more than the financial aspect. And when I say financial, I mean the tokens you buy and the tokens you sell. It is about a huge amount of opportunities, a huge amount of ways you could be building something here to have more freedom, more friends, more excitement, and yes, more money too.
I hope we can start holding that thought.
